The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV rolls into the relatively new EV truck segment with a 754-horsepower powertrain and a towing capacity that excites. The first ever electric truck from the bowtie brand was available exclusively as the 4WT (Work Truck) fleet-specific model when it first hit the market. The consumer-oriented 3WT and the high-end RST First Edition were quick to follow, and several mid-range trims are scheduled for release later this year (2024). The 2024 Silverado EV is built on the same platform as its burlier and much more expensive corporate cousin, the iconic HUMMER EV pickup. The Silverado EV, however, has two motors rather than three. Don’t let that distinction make you think the Silverado EV is any less capable. According to Chevy, the base powertrain produces an incredible 510 horsepower with 615 lb-ft of torque, which is even more than the gas-powered 2024 Silverado 1500. And its power output doesn’t stop there. It ranges all the way up to 754 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque. With numbers like that, the EV truck can make the zero-to-60 sprint in under 4.5 seconds and haul up to 10,000 pounds when properly equipped. The RST First Edition trim gains a launch-control system that gives it a boost in acceleration. All-wheel drive is standard on all models, and a rear-wheel driver trailer with adaptive air suspension is available. When the TrailBoss trim level becomes available, it’s expected to feature a bevy of off-road-specific features, including locking differentials and all-terrain tires.
The truck features a 200kWh battery, and, as of this writing (Jan 2024), Chevy’s estimated range for its first electric pickup truck is 450 miles on a single charge, which is the longest range of any EV pickup currently on the market. Of course, when hitching a heavy load to a capable vehicle, you can expect some decrease in driving range, just like with any other EV.
Charging the Silverado EV is simple. Drivers can access the charging port behind the left rear wheel and charge the vehicle with a 240-volt household-style power outlet, a Level 2 home charging station, or a Level 3 DC fast charging station. With a Level 2 charger, drivers can expect to reach a full charge in around 20 hours, but with fast charging, the Silverado EV can get a 100-mile range boost in only 10 minutes.
The base model of the 2024 Silverado EV features a simple, rugged design that shucks the over-the-top indulgences of other truck brands, but the RST First Edition model doesn’t shy away from a bit of sumptuousness. Both feature mid to high-end materials and a well-built and finely crafted fit and finish. All models are currently a Crew Cab that seats five people. Cloth upholstery throughout and heated and manually adjustable front seats are standard. Leather upholstery throughout and with heated, ventilated, and power-adjustable front seats are available.

The 2024 Silverado EV is currently only offered with a 5-foot-11-inch bed and a frunk that adds an additional 10.7 cubic feet of cargo space.
