The Chevrolet Tahoe and the 2024 Ford Expedition both land in the top ten large SUVs list of several of the most reputable critics, so if you’re looking for a family vehicle that can shuttle a broad of seven, these models should be at the top of your list as well. Both SUVs offer a truck-like body-on-frame design that gives the towing capacities that soar above crossover vehicles of the same size. They feature gobs of interior space, a generous list of tech and safety features, and powerful engines that hustle them around town and up to highway speeds sufficiently enough to get you where you’re going as quickly as a smaller SUV such as the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse. But there are some notable differences between the two the most significant being handling, interior quality, fuel efficiency, price, and customizable options, all of which the Tahoe excels with the Expedition lagging behind.
The Chevrolet Tahoe is available in six trim levels – LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country. The base model LT comes with standard premium cloth upholstery, heated front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver seat, an 8-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, and tri-zone climate control. Climbing the trim levels to the LT model adds leather upholstery, driver seat memory, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a universal garage door opener, and more. It’s by no means uncomfortable with a ton of interior space and upper trim levels offer a luxe experience, just at a far greater cost than the Tahoe.
The 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe has 18 more cubic feet of total cargo space than the Expedition (122.9 vs.104.6). It beats its space behind the rear seat (25.5 vs. 20.9), and the Expedition lags behind in cargo space behind the second row as well (76.2 vs. 63.6). The Expedition also has a higher load floor, making it harder to load heavier items. Both offer power-folding third-row seats.
Though the Ford Expedition has a larger touchscreen display – (8 to 10.2 inches vs. 12-inch to 15.5-inch), the vehicles offer nearly identical standard infotainment features. They both offer standard Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities, satellite radio, voice command, and a six-speaker stereo. The only notable difference is that the Tahoe has six USB ports and the Expedition only has four.
The 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe offers three engine options all of which are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
The 2024 Ford Expedition only has one engine option – a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Depending on its configuration the engine produces up to 440 horsepower and up to 510 lb-ft of torque.
Both models feature adaptive air suspensions that dampen harsh road conditions for a smooth riding experience, standard rear-wheel drive, and available four-wheel drive.
