IIHS Ratings Criteria of the Side Crash Tests

The side-crash test has safety ratings criteria. There are factors that are put into consideration when rating the vehicle’s safety. The engineers look at three factors because of their importance to the safety of the occupant of the vehicle. A good vehicle is going to do well in all of the factors.

The factors that are looked at when rating the safety of the vehicle are the injury measures, head protection, and safety cage. These are the factors that determine the likelihood of the survival of the occupant in the vehicle in the case of a crash from the side.
The ratings of the vehicle that are given at the end of the test range from good to marginal. Acceptable is the mid-range rating. The driver of the vehicle is the least likely to die from a crash on a side in a vehicle with a good rating.
