Venture with GM Super Cruise in Brownsville, TX

How to Use Super Cruise on Chevrolet Models

Thanks to the innovative minds at GM, the driving experience of Chevrolet drivers just got a whole lot easier. The latest version of GM Super Cruise, which is available on seven 2024 Chevrolet models, offers Lane Change On Demand, Trailering Support, and over 240 million miles of compatible roadways. That’s millions of miles of hands-free driving for Chevrolet drivers to enjoy. If you’ve just purchased a new Chevrolet model or you’re considering one as your next vehicle, this guide below will help you explore Super Cruise functionality.

What Super Cruise Is

GM Super Cruise is a semi-autonomous driving system that combines the functionality of adaptive cruise control, lane centering, following distance monitoring, and driver attention monitoring to create a hands-free driving system for Chevrolet drivers. It uses GPS, LiDAR mapping, radar sensors, and cameras to safely navigate and steer your vehicle along compatible roads, leaving you free to engage in conversation, enjoy a mid-road-trip snack, or take in the scenery. The feature reduces driver fatigue, and – on select vehicles – it can even be used while pulling a trailer.

What Super Cruise Is Not

Vehicles with Super Cruise are not self-driving cars – although, as the first truly hands-free driving system in the world, it’s the closest thing to it. Super Cruise still requires the driver to be alert, attentive, and prepared to take the wheel in emergent situations. Although it cannot navigate around accidents or road obstacles, select models are equipped with Lane Change On Demand, which makes switching lanes as simple as activating the turning signal. The system will then look for an opening in the adjacent lane and execute the lane change when the coast is clear.

Complimentary OnStar Subscription

Super Cruise requires an active subscription to a Super Cruise OnStar service plan. All Chevrolet models equipped with Super Cruise come standard with a complimentary three-year subscription and are eligible for a paid service plan when the complimentary plan expires.

Super Cruise Requirements

Before attempting to use Super Cruise, ensure that you are on a compatible road and that you are fully alert and attentive. You must disengage all Chevy Teen Driver Technology features. Then turn on Forward Collision Alert and Adaptive Cruise Control. Once all of these conditions are met, you can use Super Cruise.

How to Turn on Super Cruise

Turning on Super Cruise is a simple three-step process. If Adaptive Cruise Control is turned on, the system will let you know when you are on a compatible road by displaying a white Super Cruise icon on the digital gauge cluster. When the icon appears, follow the steps below to activate Super Cruise.

  1. Press the Super Cruise button on your steering wheel.
  2. Wait for the light bar on your steering wheel to turn green, indicating that Super Cruise is active.
  3. You can now take your hands off the wheel.
